I grew up as a kid seeing games in the WHA as well as many games in the golden years. Edmonton was a smaller place back then and the Oilers felt like part of your family. The team grew up in front of our eyes. I remember being at the Edmonton Gardens with my Dad watching one of the first times Kurri skated in Edmonton with Matti Hagman RIP.In the 80s an Oiler game was like going to a rock concert and a circus rolled into one. It really was unbelievably entertaining. I missed the introductions of the alumni game last time so I sure won't miss it this time.
I think the new team is separating itself from history and creating it's own identity.
I look forward to seeing this new team have it's own rock concert/circus moments for the younger generation of fans.
Big game today and a bigger game Sunday.
